Employees are asked to contribute in a way that is not judgmental, in fact they are encouraged to challenge the status quo, to define a better future. Implementing this idea means a high level of cooperative teamwork with a common mission and vision, driven by a set of goals and objectives that come from the very top of the organization’s structure. In essence, cultural inclusiveness is the degree to which an employee not only understands their own culture, they also understand cultures that are different, they know how to adapt their behaviours so as to facilitate interaction as well as how to coach and mentor others around them. Organizations that nurture a high degree of cultural inclusiveness engender a sense of belonging and self-worth in their employees.

Why Is It Important?

If you want employees to give their best, to feel accepted, show engagement and encourage others to do the same, the most important thing you can do is to encourage them to keep their cultural identity in the workplace and give them the insight to understand cultural inclusiveness.

Organizations that give their employees insight into cultural inclusiveness are far more likely to reach business success as well as adapt to inevitable future change. When employees are encouraged to act in ways that are tolerant of difference, i.e. to display culturally inclusive behaviours, they will be more willing to involve those that have different views, experience and ways of dealing with diverse situations.

Cultural inclusiveness allows a group of people to learn from one another and to define solutions that better match what a customer or market needs now and in the future.

Culturally inclusive employees cannot only more easily handle the changing demands of a dynamic global economy and the pressures of a “do more, quicker” workplace, they also respond more resourcefully to major changes and challenges.

Chris Pether, LLM BSc

Chris Pether, LLM, BSc has 18 years of Human Capital Management (HCM) and General Management experience working with middle market and global organizations. During that time she has worked as a corporate HR professional in telecommunications, professional services and in B2B online business sectors across Europe and the Americas.

Ms. Pether’s experience at senior management level in privately held family businesses, legal partnerships, start-ups and global corporations, operating in several very diverse industry sectors, combined with her expertise in diagnostic tools, management training and action learning techniques, gives her a rare ability to provide coaching and training for senior managers and help them find viable solutions for their business issues.
At Nortel Networks, a global telecommunications firm, Ms. Pether held numerous positions across the European markets in the field of HCM. Her last role was head of the European Resourcing Centre for external and internal hires. Ms. Pether joined Caliper Europe in 2002, a global assessment and human resources consulting firm, as managing director. She was responsible for building and managing the European operations and growing key accounts. Clients include Novartis, Abbott, Roche, Eurocopter, EADS, GMAC, C&A, European Patent Office, Gemalto.
Ms. Pether holds professional qualifications in public international law, German and Russian. Ms. Pether is licensed to deliver several ability and psychometric instruments and has been invited as speaker on the Human Resources Management Programme at HEC and Sciences Po in Paris.
She also runs cultural workshops at Euromed in Marseille. Ms. Pether is fluent in French, German and English. She also understands basic Dutch.

Francesco Pimpinelli, LLM, BSc

Francesco has been a pioneer of coaching in Italy. He is an executive coach who is an expert in helping leaders ‘both at individual and team level’ to reach personal and organisational objectives and to obtain concrete and long-lasting results.

In his approach to coaching he integrates a long experience in management and consulting on an international level with an inter-cultural perspective and considerable competence in the field of personal growth. He understands executives and the pressures and concerns that come with the role, having successfully faced these same challenges in his own career. As one of his coachees remarked, ‘Francesco has excellent business management know-how and a lot of expertise in personal growth. The combination of these two qualities produces a very balanced and respectful approach that enabled me to make the next step’ (president of a global industrial company).
Francesco’s style is totally client-centred. He is used to coach on different themes – such as challenging situations, leadership skills and behaviours, role transition, emotional balance, work-life integration and personal evolution – according to the goals of the coachee.
He uses different coaching tools and methods relevant to the client attitudes and goals: situational coaching, systemic coaching, shadow coaching and evolutionary coaching.
He is driven by his values, which include integrity, results, curiosity, balance and courage. He received a master degree in Computer Science from the University of Milan. Then he gained a broad corporate business background developed by working with some major international organizations.
He worked for Olivetti where has been the key expert in educational technology and later a business manager for multimedia solutions, he has been a consultant for the European Union in the area of ITC, a management consultant at Gemini Consulting running strategy and organizational projects, then at Oracle Italy, first director of pre-sales and then sales director of internet and e-commerce solutions. A brief experience in a venture capital fund sponsored by Unicredit Group completed his management experience.
His areas of expertise include executive coaching, team coaching, leadership development, emotional intelligence, coaching across cultures, coaching skills for managers, business strategy, marketing and sales, change management. He is used to incorporating into his work, 360 degree feedback and development assessments. He has been working with top teams and executives both in Italy and in Europe across different industries. Francesco coaches fluently in Italian and English.
